Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere Recreate Their Parents' Iconic Vogue Photo

Some photographs simply capture a moment. Others, with time, become part of pop culture. The famous 1992 Vogue shoot featuring Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere belongs firmly to the second category. Back then, they were one of the most glamorous couples of their era: a supermodel and a Hollywood star, youth, fame, and that elusive glamour that defined the 1990s.

Thirty-four years have passed, and the story has taken an almost cinematic turn.

On the cover of Vogue’s September 2026 issue are 24-year-old Kaia Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford, and 26-year-old Homer Gere, son of Richard Gere. And yes, these are the very same Kaia and Homer whose parents once appeared together in the pages of this very magazine.

But the most fascinating part isn’t even their famous last names.

Familiar Faces, a New Story

Kaia and Homer met on the set of the new series The Shards, an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s novel developed by Ryan Murphy. Set in Los Angeles in 1981, the story follows a group of privileged teenagers whose lives are gradually consumed by passion, obsession, and anxiety.

The irony is almost perfect: the children of a former Hollywood couple didn’t simply happen to end up in the same project. They also became on-screen partners — and then appeared together on the cover of Vogue.

“It’s too obvious,” Homer joked when talking about the remarkable coincidence. According to him, when he and Kaia first met, they quickly decided to simply acknowledge the elephant in the room: their parents had once been married. After that, it seems, the awkwardness disappeared.

And that may be the most charming detail of the entire story.

Instead of dramatically avoiding the obvious, they simply decided to laugh about it.

From “Celebrity Kids” to Stars in Their Own Right

Kaia Gerber has long lived in the not-so-easy shadow of the Crawford name. It is almost impossible not to compare her looks to her mother’s, or her modeling career to Cindy’s legendary path.

Yet Kaia is gradually building a career of her own. She works not only in fashion but is also actively developing her career as an actress.

Homer Gere, meanwhile, has chosen a path that cannot be described as a simple continuation of his father’s career. He studied fine art, developed an interest in architecture and art, and revealed a surprisingly diverse range of passions in his Vogue interview. For example, he talks about his love of design and even mentions a dream of making furniture.

In other words, we are no longer looking at simply “Cindy Crawford’s daughter” and “Richard Gere’s son.”

We are looking at Kaia and Homer.

And perhaps that is the most important message behind their cover.

1992 vs. 2026

There is another reason this photoshoot has captured so much public attention.

In 1992, Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere were symbols of their era. Today, their Vogue cover feels like a small time capsule — a reminder of an aesthetic in which supermodels were genuine megastars and Hollywood romances became part of the cultural landscape.

In 2026, Kaia and Homer seem to take us back to that same image, but with a completely different mood.

This isn’t an attempt to literally recreate the past.

Rather, it feels like a dialogue between generations.

As if they were saying: “Yes, we know you were here. But now it’s our turn.”

And Vogue seems to understand the power of that moment perfectly.

The Best Part? Their Chemistry

If the photoshoot attracted attention primarily because of the protagonists’ famous backgrounds, the interview reveals a completely different side of their dynamic.

Kaia and Homer don’t come across as two people placed next to each other simply because of their famous last names. There is an easy, almost friendly sense of comfort between them — the kind you see in two people who have spent a lot of time together on set. Vogue even describes them as two friends with their own jokes and inside memes.

They also have something else in common: they know how not to take themselves too seriously.

Homer, for example, admitted that he has a strong dislike of overhead lighting. Kaia, meanwhile, revealed that people often mistakenly assume she has no sense of humor simply because of her dry style of joking.

It sounds far more interesting than yet another glossy interview about the “secret to success.”
