How often do we hear that true love doesn’t depend on age, distance, or even social differences? That there is something much stronger and more mysterious than we can imagine? The story of Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva is one of the brightest examples of how two people, despite all obstacles, can find each other and become soulmates.
In 2014, fate brought them together in Positano, on the picturesque Amalfi Coast, when they were both at a turning point in their lives. Richard had just gone through a divorce from actress Carey Lowell, and Alejandra was ending her own relationship with businessman Govind Friedland. Both were looking for a new beginning, and at that moment, their paths crossed. And, as often happens in such stories, the meeting place was truly cinematic. Positano, with its narrow streets, ancient architecture, and the eternal sea horizon, became the perfect backdrop for the start of their story.
Despite the huge age difference between them—33 years—and living in different countries (Alejandra in Spain and Richard in the United States), this didn’t stop their love from growing. As Alejandra herself said, their relationship wasn’t just love. It was the feeling that they had always known each other, as if their destinies had been connected in past lives.
After their wedding in 2018, the couple settled in Spain, and a few years later, they had two children—Alexander and James. It’s not just a family; it’s the union of two people whose hearts beat in sync because they not only share the same values but also aspire to make the world a better place. As Alejandra notes, one of the things that united them was their activism.
"Being an activist means bringing your values into the world to make it better. It means giving a voice to those who can’t be heard and drawing attention to important issues. And no matter how small our help, it’s important to direct our energy in the right way," she shares.
This drive for change, the desire to help, and the fight for a better future became the bond that strengthened their relationship. For Richard and Alejandra, it’s not just about their personal experiences but also a global goal—to make the world a better, fairer, and more equal place.
In 2023, their love was back in the headlines: they graced the cover of the February issue of Elle Spain. The photo, taken by renowned photographer Jan Welters, shows their happy moments together, and behind it lies not only an image of family but also a story of deep mutual understanding and respect.
However, we must not forget that, despite the romance in this story, true love always brings challenges. Overcoming differences, accepting your partner with their flaws, considering the other person’s interests—all of this requires time and effort. But it seems that Richard and Alejandra have found the strength and desire not only to be together but to grow in this relationship.
Though it may sound like a cliché, the story of these two is a real example that love knows no boundaries. It doesn’t matter how old you are, where you live, or what path you’ve walked. What matters is that feeling of soul connection, which can’t be found through searching but comes when you least expect it.
And as Alejandra herself said, maybe their two destinies crossed just because their karma led them to this moment and this place. If that’s the case, we can only rejoice for them and hope that their love continues to bring happiness not only to them but to everyone who follows them.
