Kaia Gerber: How to Stop Running from Yourself – and Become Who You Truly Are

Sometimes, in order to find yourself, you have to try being someone else first. And then — let go. Not because you’ve lost, but because you’ve already won. That’s exactly what happened with Kaia Gerber — the girl with a last name the whole world knows, and a face now gracing the cover of Vogue España.

Sometimes, in order to find yourself, you have to try being someone else first. And then — let go. Not because you’ve lost, but because you’ve already won. That’s exactly what happened with Kaia Gerber — the girl with a last name the whole world knows, and a face now gracing the cover of Vogue España.

Kaia is 23, but her résumé reads like a dream. She took her first steps on the runway at age 10 — for Versace. Hello, little star! Back then, no one knew who the daughter of the legendary Cindy Crawford would grow up to be. But Kaia knew one thing: she didn’t want to be Cindy Crawford.

“I tried so hard to be different from my mom,” Kaia admits in her Vogue España interview. “I thought that if I wasn’t like her, I could prove my independence. But in reality, that only got in the way.”

To admit that you admire someone you’ve been trying to distance yourself from — that’s not weakness, it’s strength. And one day, Kaia simply let go. She stopped fighting. And the path, she says, “opened up on its own.”

In the Vogue photos, Kaia poses in Mango outfits — and it feels symbolic. Simple yet elegant looks, just like Kaia herself, radiating maturity, confidence, and... no need to prove anything.

She’s no longer “Crawford’s daughter,” no longer “the new runway star,” no longer “Austin Butler’s girlfriend.” She is Kaia Gerber. A young woman unafraid to be herself.

Every one of us has, at some point, wanted to escape someone’s shadow. Our mothers’ advice, society’s expectations, beauty standards, the roles others try to squeeze us into. We dye our hair bold colors, wear boots we’d never wear on a date, date men our friends wouldn’t approve of — all to prove to ourselves and the world: I am me.

But maybe the path to your true self isn’t about rejection, but acceptance? Maybe being yourself means allowing similarities. Or differences. Not because you have to — but because you want to.

Kaia has not only built a successful career, but also made her way into the tabloids: from a romance with Pete Davidson to a three-year relationship with Austin Butler, which recently ended.

But Kaia isn’t the girl people whisper about behind her back. She’s the one you want to listen to. Her voice is steady: “I’m not running away. I’m walking my own path. And yes, I like that it sometimes echoes my mom’s steps.”

Kaia Gerber isn’t just a pretty face on the cover of Vogue. She’s a reminder to all of us: you don’t have to prove your uniqueness by cutting yourself off from your roots. Sometimes, all you need to do is stop fighting what you love — and bloom.

And when you do, your path will open, too.
