If you thought adult parties were just boring conversations over a glass of wine, get ready for a true emotional fireworks display. A24 has just released the official trailer for its new film The Invite, and it’s already safe to say: this is a dark comedy that will make you laugh, feel tense, and eagerly anticipate what happens next.

The director and lead star of the film is Olivia Wilde, who, together with Seth Rogen, forms the dynamic couple Joe and Angela. Their marriage is going through tough times, and in an attempt to shake things up, they invite the mysterious upstairs neighbors to dinner—the charismatic Hawk, played by Edward Norton, and the charming Pina, portrayed by Penélope Cruz. What was supposed to be a normal evening turns into a psychological and emotional whirlwind: flirting, unexpected confessions, and sharp dialogue intertwine in a delicate balance between laughter and drama.

The screenplay, written by Wilde’s longtime collaborators Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, adapts the 2020 Spanish film The People Upstairs (Sentimental), bringing a fresh English-language perspective to the story. The trailer already showcases witty dialogue, growing tension minute by minute, and a memorable soundtrack—a version of Anita Ward’s hit “Ring My Bell,” setting the tone for the entire party.

For fans of Wilde, The Invite is her third directorial project following the successes of Booksmart (2019) and Don’t Worry Darling (2023). The premiere at Sundance 2026 sparked lively discussions, making the film one of the festival’s most talked-about projects, and its rights were soon acquired by A24. The film’s producers—David Permut, Ben Browning, and Megan Ellison—promise that this 107-minute R-rated masterpiece will leave no viewer indifferent.

The limited release is scheduled for June 26, 2026, with a wide theatrical release in July. If you’re looking for a comedy that’s both funny and slightly dangerous, where every word and glance can set the atmosphere alight, The Invite is for you.

And a small tip for a party with friends: to recreate the film’s atmosphere, grab a glass, bring good vibes, and be ready for unexpected twists… and maybe a few spicy secrets.
